Portugal and Mozambique Promote Economic Forum During the 6th Bilateral Summit

Portugal and Mozambique will hold an economic forum on December 9 in the city of Porto, on the sidelines of the 6th Bilateral Summit between the two countries. The initiative, which will be attended by the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, and the Portuguese Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, aims to promote partnerships between companies and public entities from both states.

According to Lusa, the organisation of the “Portugal-Mozambique Economic Forum” is being led by the Portuguese Trade and Investment Agency (AICEP), in collaboration with Mozambique’s Investment and Export Promotion Agency (APIEX), the Portuguese Industrial Confederation (CIP), the Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA), and various bilateral chambers of commerce.

The meeting will take place at the Palácio da Bolsa on the afternoon of the second and final day of the summit, and its main objective is to deepen bilateral economic relations and encourage the creation of new business partnerships. According to the Portugal-Mozambique Chamber of Commerce, the event will also feature high-level institutional and business interventions. The sessions will be opened by Portugal’s Minister of Economy and Territorial Cohesion, Manuel Castro Almeida, and Mozambique’s Minister of Economy, Basílio Zefanias Muhate.

The holding of this summit had already been announced in July, during President Daniel Chapo’s official visit to Portugal. On that occasion, the Portuguese Prime Minister stressed that, with both countries entering a new political cycle, conditions were in place to renew and energise bilateral cooperation. Luís Montenegro stated that summits are “the best expression” of the shared intention to strengthen ties between the two governments and peoples.

The summit’s agenda is expected to include reinforcing cooperation in areas such as health, education, mobility, security, and defence. The Portuguese government also reiterated its intention to create favourable conditions to intensify bilateral trade and attract new investments, noting that around 400 Portuguese companies currently have an active presence in Mozambique.
