The Nampula Provincial Business Council (CEP) has called for a reduction in Value Added Tax (VAT) to 12%. According to the organisation’s vice-president, there are still barriers that undermine the business environment in the province.
Luís Miguel Tomás de Vasconcelos pointed, for example, to unfair competition and the centralisation of some services, arguing that “cashew sector policy should advocate processing the nuts internally”.
Even so, the Nampula business community believes that the Economic Acceleration Measures Package (PAE), approved by the government last year, was the right decision, as it is gradually resulting in an improvement in the business environment.
“These measures were introduced to deal with the impact of the cost of living, caused by internal factors such as natural disasters, terrorism and other factors outside the country, mainly linked to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine,” he emphasised.
