CDN Porto (the Northern Development Corridor) handled a record 2.2. million tons of general cargo at the Port of Nacala in 2019, as a result of the company’s investment in human and technical resources, the acquisition of equipment, and the dedication of its workforce.
“It is an increase of more than 100,000 tons compared to 2018, when 1,902,245 metric tons were handled – an increase of 16%”, reads a press release from the company sent to Ikweli.
Even with the rehabilitation works taking place in the port area, which limit the performance of some operational activities, CDN Porto managed to reach the target for 2019 and outperform targets in 2018, the note continues.
Speaking about the evolution of production, the chairman of the Nacala Corridor companies, Welington Soares, explained that the figure for 2019 reflected not only investment in equipment and human resources, but the effort of the workers themselves.
“We are proud to count on the support and professionalism of our workers, during all this time that we have been at the head of the Port of Nacala operations. For this reason, we commend their commitment and dedication, which helped us to achieve extraordinary operating results in 2019, even with the infrastructure rehabilitation process. We registered a clear and significant evolution in the volume of cargo handled, as well as the ships received at the Port of Nacala,” Soares notes.
“CDN Porto has always been guided by safety concerns and valuing its employees and hiring local labour, in order to contribute to the sustainable development of the northern region in particular, and the country in general,” the statement adds.
The relationship between the port and railway infrastructure will continue in the intermodal scope of transport, and the company remains committed to continuing to work to the highest standards of health and safety, and to developing communities in the Nacala Corridor.
