The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the Competition Regulatory Authority (ARC) are collaborating to improve compliance with the Competition Law, with the aim of protecting consumer interests.
According to information from Rádio Moçambique (RM), the two organisations are also seeking to ensure better integration of the country into the African Continental Free Trade Zone.
Speaking during the seminar on “Competition and Economic Regulation in the Transport and Communications Sector”, the president of ARC, Iacumba Aiuba, explained that the new socio-economic context obliges sector regulators to fit into a wider market, focusing on promoting transparency in business.
“We are working with various partners to promote practices that are in favour of defending companies that compete with each other, as well as defending the interests of entrepreneurs who carry out economic activities.”
In March, ARC was admitted as a member of the International Competition Network (ICN), an organisation whose mission is to promote cooperation and convergence for a more effective application of competition rules worldwide.
At the time, it was revealed that with the national organisation’s membership, the ICN now has 144 members, which include national competition authorities and non-governmental experts (lawyers, academics, representatives of consumer and trade associations, among others).
