The Agency for the Promotion of Investment and Exports (APIEX) is representing Mozambique at the 34th International Trade Fair, which has been taking place since Thursday morning, 23 May, in the city of Blantyre, Malawi.
According to Rádio Moçambique, the international, multi-sector fair, which is held annually in Malawi, aims to develop export markets for locally produced products and services and attract new investment.
Aware that Malawi’s largest international trade showcase could open doors for investment in Mozambique, APIEX is exhibiting the potential of the provinces of Sofala, Manica and Tete at the fair.
The agency wants to take advantage of the economic cooperation, regional integration and trade that Mozambique has benefited from through various preferential market access systems, such as Malawi’s, to relaunch potential commercially valuable products for the markets of both countries.
Organised by the Confederation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Malawi, the International Trade Fair will also show the world that the country is an attractive destination for trade and investment.
Wezi Mungoni, Director of Development at the Confederation of Malawi Chambers of Commerce and Industry, believes that the event will facilitate contact with international exhibitors and stimulate consumption and economic integration between the countries of the region and the world.
By the beginning of this week, representatives from 177 companies and countries, including Mozambique, had guaranteed their presence at the event. To be inaugurated by the Mozambican President, Lazarus Chakwera, the 34th international fair has the theme ‘Boosting Malawi’s Export Capacity by Increasing Production’.
