Mozambican Exports to Qatar Increase by More than US$50 Million

In the last two years (2021 – 2022), Mozambique has increased its exports to Qatar by over 50 million dollars. This figure largely exceeds the 60 to 80 million obtained over a ten year period (2010 – 2020).

This was revealed by Mozambique’s ambassador to Qatar, Isac Massamby, on the sidelines of the participation of the Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, in the 5th Conference on Least Developed Countries that ended on Tuesday, 7 March.

As Isac Mamudo Massamby explained, cited by the newspaper Noticias, with the growing rise in trade, the balance that can be made of the cooperation between Mozambique and Qatar is quite positive.

“Trade relations are good and we are in the phase of consolidation and increase. Between 2010 and 2020 the trade balance was in deficit. In this case, we had a deficit of 20 million. However, in 2021 and 2022 we managed to invert the table and we have a surplus,” said Isac Massamby, for whom the opening of our country’s embassy in Doha, about two years ago, represents a lever for the increase of exports.

Mozambique exports more vegetables and dry fruits to Qatar. In the opposite direction, Qatar places in our country chemical fertilizers, medicines and clothing.

“However, the trend in the last two years is that Mozambique is exporting more to Qatar than the other way around. To all intents and purposes, we are laying the groundwork for the cooperation to continue to grow further,” the ambassador said.
