Chinese miner TZM Resources is due to start mining heavy sands in Pebane district, Zambezia province, central Mozambique, in the coming months. The information was provided on Monday 5 February by the region’s administrator, Eduardo Vida.
According to the source, the start of operations was initially planned for the end of last year, but did not take place because the testing of the machines took longer, and is now in its final phase.
“Activities will start soon, as the infrastructure (shipyards, harbour and camp) is ready. This project will boost development and create jobs for young people,” he said.
According to Eduardo Vida, the mining company is fulfilling its role with the communities through its social responsibility actions, especially with regard to providing electricity and scholarships.
The Pebane heavy sands project is budgeted at 30 million dollars and has a lifespan of 15 years.
TZM Resources is a public limited company registered in August 2020, whose main object is mining, including its import and export.
In the Social Economic Plan and State Budget (PESOE) for 2024, the government expects the extractive industry sector to grow by 18.6 per cent.
