PR Inaugurates Graphite Processing Plant Valued at US$200 Million

The President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo, will inaugurate the Nipepe Graphite Processing Plant on Friday, January 30, an industrial venture built in the village of Muichi, Nipepe district, Niassa province. The plant is part of Mozambique’s Industrialization Strategy and represents an investment of around US$200 million.

According to a statement from the Presidency of the Republic, the factory’s installation is the result of measures to facilitate foreign investment, with the aim of boosting the local exploitation and valorization of national mineral resources.

The project embodies the State’s commitment to stimulate industrialization in the place where raw materials occur, thus contributing to regional economic development.

“The establishment of the Graphite Processing Plant in the village of Muichi, in the district of Nipepe, in the province of Niassa, signals Mozambique’s commitment to ensuring, whenever possible, the exploitation of our natural resources where they occur, thereby maximizing their potential,” said the head of state.

Dedicated to the processing of graphite (a strategic mineral essential for the production of batteries and other technological applications), the unit is expected to generate hundreds of jobs for Mozambican citizens, with a special focus on young people in the region, as well as ensuring direct economic benefits for local communities.
