Two newly built electric cutter suction dredgers, recently completed in the Netherlands, are en route to Mozambique, where they will strengthen Kenmare Resources’ operations at the Moma Mine, one of the world’s largest titanium mineral deposits.
According to a post by the company on social media, the vessels — named CSD Calen and CSD Sandra — were successfully loaded last week onto a transport ship at the Royal IHC shipyard in Kinderdijk, Netherlands. Each dredger is 62 meters long and weighs approximately 1,000 tons, specifically designed to meet the operational demands of the mining site.
The arrival of these new dredgers represents a significant technological investment by Kenmare, aiming to enhance extraction capacity and efficiency through the use of sustainable solutions. Fully electric, the dredgers will enable cleaner and more efficient extraction of titanium-rich sands from mining ponds.
According to the company, these high-capacity units are expected to have a major impact on the productivity of the Moma Mine, located in Nampula Province, further strengthening Mozambique’s position as one of the world’s leading producers of ilmenite, rutile, and zircon — essential minerals for the pigment, ceramics, and metals industries.
The dredgers are expected to be delivered and operational soon, marking a new phase of technological modernization and environmental commitment in Kenmare’s activities in the country.
