The installation of the graphite exploration and processing plant in the district of Nipepe, Niassa province, is boosting local development and creating job opportunities for young people in the region, said Mozambican President (PR) Filipe Nyusi.
According to a Radio Moçambique (RM) publication, Nyusi made this statement during his visit to the factory on Wednesday (18), in which he pointed out that the enterprise already employs more than 600 people, including national and foreign workers. The plant is run by the Chinese company DH-Mining Development, which holds the concession for the local mines.
The project, which is currently in the machine assembly phase, has two graphite processing lines, with a capacity of more than 200,000 tonnes of graphite per year, in an investment of more than 100 million US dollars.
The President also stressed that the Nipepe plant is becoming an important training centre for the local workforce, contributing significantly to the qualification of workers and economic growth in the region.
In the same context, the Mozambican President inaugurated a bridge over the Lúrio River, between the provinces of Niassa and Nampula, an infrastructure also financed by the company DH-Mining Development to the tune of around 15 million dollars (948 million meticals).
‘This bridge is a crucial element in the viability of agricultural commercialisation and the promotion of local agro-processing,’ declared Nyusi, during the inauguration of the bridge.
