Mozambique to Launch Magnetite Production and Processing Industry

Mozambique will have, for the first time, an industry for the production and processing of magnetite, an ore of capital importance for the coal, iron and steel industries.

To this end, the foundation stone was laid on Friday, 14 July, for the operationalisation of the magnetite factory construction project in Tete province, under the presidential initiative “Industrialise Mozambique”.

The governor of Tete, Domingos Viola, quoted by Rádio Moçambique (RM), explained the importance of the venture for the province and the country in general. “The final product, which will be manufactured here, is used for washing coal and everyone knows that Tete province is rich in this mineral. We have coal that is being explored in Moatize and Marara, but we also have other deposits that have not yet been explored, which means that the final product of this plant will ensure that the processing of this mineral that we have is of quality and can be sold in the world,” he said.

The enterprise to be built in the village of Catipo, in the district of Moatize in Tete province, has a capacity to produce seventy-five thousand tonnes of this mineral per year.
