Since August last year, Montepuez Ruby Mining has been building a second ruby processing centre at the Namanhumbir administrative post, in the southern region of Cabo Delgado, with an investment of 100 million US dollars, to begin operations in 2025.
The infrastructure will allow the processing of rubies to rise from the current 200 tonnes per hour to 600, contributing to an increase in the workforce and revenue for the state, according to Milcon Chichume, Public Relations Manager at Montepuez Ruby Mining.
“This is the Gemfilds group’s biggest investment ever. As a company we want to ensure that we are the most responsible ruby mine in the world,” said Chichume.
According to the source, the company’s vision is to become one of the most responsible in the world, which is why it is joining an international verification system called IRMA, which allows other players to monitor various aspects, such as the environment and relations with communities and the government, among others.
