South African mining company Ironveld is preparing to begin exporting its DMS-grade magnetite, having identified Mozambique as one of the strategic markets for commercializing the product. The announcement was made by the company’s CEO, Kris Andersson, during an operational update on the high-purity iron, vanadium, and titanium project located in the Bushveld Complex, Limpopo Province, as reported by Mining Weekly on Thursday, May 22.
According to Andersson, international demand for magnetite has exceeded expectations, and Mozambique has emerged as one of the main destinations with strong potential to absorb significant volumes of the product. The company confirms that purchase agreements for DMS magnetite are at an advanced stage, and ongoing negotiations are taking place to supply both the Mozambican and South African markets.
Ironveld has just completed construction of the first phase of its dense media separation (DMS) plant, which has already been commissioned. Commercial production has begun following successful testing, and laboratory results have confirmed that the magnetite meets market standards. Although the primary purchase contract currently in place is with Sable Platinum, the possibility of direct ore sales is opening new opportunities for revenue diversification, including into regional markets such as Mozambique.
In addition to exports, the company is also developing a pilot water atomization plant for the production of high-purity iron powder (HPI), which could enhance its portfolio of higher value-added products. Kris Andersson emphasized that Ironveld is in a transition phase, evolving from a development-stage company into a fully operational, revenue-generating entity. “We are experiencing an exciting moment and are fully committed to executing our strategy and generating sustainable value for our shareholders,” he said.
