The Sofala Mining and Exploration, LTD company has started the extraction of zirconium, rutile and ilmenite, which are part of the group of heavy minerals used in the manufacture of paints, electrodes for welding and metal alloys, among other purposes, in the town of Nhancutse, Chongoene district.
According to the spokesman for the State Representation Services in Gaza, Alberto Matusse, the mining company is in the process of acquiring and setting up the respective plant in order to make the project operational.
The source did not give details of the social and economic impact of the project, specifically on the population of Nhancutse, but assured that it would be “huge and advantageous, including the creation of new jobs”.
In addition to Nhacutse, Sofala Mining and Exploration, LTD also holds heavy sand exploration licences in the districts of Chibuto and Mandlakazi. The aim of the process is to gauge the capacity of the deposits, as well as the quality of the ores.
