The administrative authorities at the Maputo province level revealed that floods and inundations in the sugar cane fields are compromising the sugar production.
Due to the phenomenon, the general manager of the Maragra Sugar company, Filipe Raposo, said yesterday, March 14, that the production levels in Xinavane and Maragra sugar factories, in Manhiça district, may decrease due to the low availability of sugar cane.
The responsible still said that it is premature to advance any information regarding the operational future of the companies. “We, at the moment, have no idea what the real losses are. The flow levels are still quite high. We don’t have safe access to the sugarcane fields,” he explained.
In his turn, the provincial governor, Júlio Parruque, encouraged the sugar companies to find better solutions to deal with the damage caused by the bad weather.
