Maputo City Council Prohibits Sale and Consumption of Alcohol on Costa do Sol Beach

The Maputo Municipal Council announced on Tuesday, 10 February, that the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages along the seafront, particularly on Costa do Sol beach, is prohibited.

The measure, aimed at organising and regulating the behaviour of residents on the beaches, was announced by the Councillor for Economic Activities and Tourism, Alexandre Muianga, speaking at a press conference held jointly with the Municipal Police and the Command of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in the city of Maputo.

In addition, the Maputo authorities also announced that parking is prohibited outside designated and authorised areas.

“The measures relate to the permanent reinforcement of patrols and inspections by the Municipal Police; regulation of informal trade and removal of unauthorised activities; enhancement of cleaning, solid waste management and environmental protection; and strict enforcement of fines and sanctions under Municipal Regulations for offenders.
