Lusophone countries exported 3.8 percent less to Macau in the first five months of the year, compared to the same period in 2020, the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) announced Tuesday.
The Portuguese-speaking countries exported goods worth 276 million patacas (28.9 million euros) to the former Portuguese-administered territory from January to May 2021, the DSEC said in a statement.
In contrast, the Portuguese-speaking countries imported products worth just 418,000 patacas (43.8 thousand euros), a drop of 94.9 percent.
In total, Macau exported products valued at 5.51 billion patacas (577 million euros), up 29.9 percent year on year.
In terms of imports of goods by the Chinese special administrative region, the value was 59.03 billion patacas (6.19 billion euros), up 33.44 billion patacas (3.5 billion euros) year-on-year.
The trade deficit through May this year was MOP53.52 billion (€5.61 billion), up from MOP20.08 billion (€2.1 billion) in the same period of 2020.
For the first five months of the year, the total value of external merchandise trade was MOP64.54 billion (€6.76 billion), up 125.9% year-on-year.
