The Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), one of the world’s largest shipping lines, announced the launch of a new independent maritime service called “Cheetah”, which will connect Asia directly to Mozambique, strengthening the country’s trade and maritime connectivity with international markets.

According to the company statement accessed by Diário Económico on Tuesday, October 21, the inaugural voyage of the vessel ‘MSC Sheffield III (FH545A)’ is scheduled for November 3, 2025, departing from Singapore.
“The Cheetah service promises faster transit times for trade exchanges between Mozambique and Asia, offering a reliable, flexible, and exclusive MSC route. The new maritime link aims to meet the growth of the Mozambican market, providing broader port coverage and dedicated solutions for transporting vehicles, electronic equipment, textiles, and chemicals,” the statement reads.

The route includes stops at the ports of Singapore, Colombo, Beira, and Nacala, before returning to Singapore, strengthening Mozambique’s position as a strategic platform for Indian Ocean maritime trade.
The launch of this service is part of MSC’s global strategy to expand and diversify its trade routes. In September, the company announced a new direct service to the Middle East, further reinforcing its presence in emerging markets. More recently, the Mersin International Port (MIP) in Turkey celebrated the docking of the 400-meter MSC Ditte at the newly completed East Med Hub 2 (EMH2) terminal, 880 meters long, consolidating MSC’s role as a world leader in container shipping.
