Mozambique and Russia are committed to deepening their collaboration in the transport and logistics sector. As part of the visit of the Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, to that country, the signing of a cooperation memorandum is expected, aimed at opening new investment opportunities between the two nations.
According to a statement from the Ministry, cited by Club of Mozambique, the minister is in Saint Petersburg to participate in the 1st International Transport and Logistics Forum 2026, which runs until Friday, April 3. The event brings together senior officials and government representatives from more than 60 countries, providing a platform for dialogue on global challenges and opportunities in the sector.
During the forum’s opening session, participants emphasized the need to identify and develop alternative routes for the transport of goods. They also highlighted the importance of promoting the digitalization of transport corridors as a response to current geopolitical and economic challenges affecting international systems.
On the sidelines of the forum, João Matlombe held bilateral meetings with high-level authorities from the Russian Federation and other participating countries. These meetings aimed to strengthen bilateral and multilateral cooperation, enabling the exchange of experiences and the development of new strategic partnerships.
The Mozambican transport minister is also expected to meet with private sector representatives to explore investment opportunities in transport and logistics. The goal is to align interests between public and private stakeholders, creating conditions for joint projects and sustainable investments.
The minister’s visit and the signing of the memorandum reinforce Mozambique’s commitment to modernizing its transport and logistics systems. Cooperation with Russia is seen as a strategy to ensure greater efficiency, innovation, and security in international supply chains.
With this initiative, Mozambique aims to establish itself as a strategic partner in international trade and transport. The bilateral cooperation and multilateral dialogue fostered during the forum may open up new economic opportunities while strengthening diplomatic ties between the two countries.
