Mozambique Railways (CFM) will temporarily suspend all train services on the Goba line for ten days, between 17 and 26 June 2026, as part of a regional infrastructure maintenance plan involving southern Mozambique, the Republic of South Africa, and the Kingdom of Eswatini.
The announcement was made this Monday (15) by the Executive Directorate of CFM-South, which clarified that the suspension will affect all trains operating on the line, including both passenger and freight services.
According to an official company statement seen by DE, the measure results from the implementation of a regional railway maintenance programme coordinated among the three countries that form this railway corridor.
As a result, between 17 and 26 June, the Goba line will be completely closed to rail traffic, meaning no trains will operate along that route during the maintenance period.
The planned works will not only affect the Goba line. The maintenance programme will also impact the Ressano Garcia line, although with less significant effects for users. According to CFM, passenger trains on the Ressano Garcia line will continue to operate during the same period. However, services will be subject to constraints due to ongoing maintenance works.
The company explained that these interventions aim primarily to improve operational conditions across the regional rail network, strengthening safety levels and comfort for passengers and operators.
“The maintenance works on the lines are aimed above all at ensuring greater safety and comfort in train operations. The South Executive Directorate thanks all users and partners for their understanding and cooperation,” reads the CFM statement.
Given the expected disruptions, the company is calling for understanding and cooperation from users and partners, recommending that passengers and economic operators relying on these strategic routes in southern Mozambique plan their travel and operations in advance during the maintenance period.
