Standard Bank is holding a conference on logistics and trade in the city of Beira, Sofala province, on Wednesday 11 September. The event, which is part of the bank’s 130th anniversary celebrations, aims to explore the potential and investment opportunities in central Mozambique and the hinterland countries.
According to a statement from the bank, the conference aims to highlight the strategic position of the city of Beira as an important logistics centre, home to the second largest port and the second largest industrial park in the country.
The bank also points out that, thanks to its location and vast chain of logistical infrastructures, the city of Beira plays a key role in regional integration, facilitating access for inland African countries to regional and international markets.
‘Standard Bank has been one of the main financiers and promoters of growth in the logistics and trade sectors, also supporting projects in all of the country’s development corridors, namely Maputo, Beira and Nacala,’ reads the statement.
The event will be attended by key players from the trade and logistics sectors in Beira and other regions, who will debate strategies to empower business and promote innovation in the sector.
The statement also said that the event will be attended by Prosper Komla Bissi, senior counsellor for Agriculture and Trade Value Chains at the African Union, as well as representatives from the companies Portos e Caminhos-de-Ferro de Moçambique (CFM), Terramar, Associação Comercial da Beira, Transcom and Cornelder, among others.
Standard Bank representatives, including the chairman of the board of directors, Esselina Macome, and managing director Bernardo Aparício will take part in two panel discussions entitled ‘The Development Corridor: Investment Opportunities in Beira’ and ‘Establishing a Resilient Value Chain’, according to the institution’s press release.
At the same time as the conference, Standard Bank will be promoting other social and sporting activities in the city of Beira, in association with the bank’s 130th anniversary celebrations in Mozambique.
According to the document, on 11 September there will be an action to plant trees in various arteries of the city, as part of its commitment to the preservation and conservation of the environment.
The initiative, as the statement explains, aims not only to reinforce Standard Bank’s position as a development partner, but also to foster sustainable economic growth in the region and the country.
