Labour Migratory Movement: More than 20,000 Mozambicans Workers from South Africa Were Assisted

A total of 20,049 Mozambicans working in South African mines and bunkers received assistance from the Government between December 15 and January 3, in order to facilitate their movement in and out of the country.

Of the total number of workers assisted, 13,798 were assisted in returning to their jobs in South Africa.

This is an activity carried out by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security, through the National Directorate of Migratory Labor, as part of the management and labor emigration during the festive season.

According to the head of the Emigration Department, Alfredo Mutumucue, the activity had greater incidence on the borders of Ressano Garcia, Ponta do Ouro and Teba mining payment stations in the cities of Maputo, Xai-Xai and Maxixe, in the provinces of Maputo, Gaza and Inhambane, respectively.

The responsible revealed that the management and labor migration was very productive, mainly due to the improvement of assistance mechanisms. He also said that during the period under review, 70 lectures were held involving 11 880 workers, in which new payment models were disclosed to the miners in rand and directly in their bank accounts.

“The Regulation of the Customs Regime Applicable to Mineworkers was also shared in the languages most spoken by the target group,” he concluded.

The assistance to South Africa’s mineworkers and pharmas ended over the weekend.
