The Road Network of Mozambique (REVIMO) is satisfied with the level of execution of the works aiming to improve the trafficability of the sections Macia-Bilene Beach and Macia-Chókwè-Macarretane, in Gaza province.
“We are satisfied with the levels of execution and the quality of the works in progress. Everything has been going as agreed,” admitted Lichanga, who believes in meeting the delivery deadline (October). “Overall we are at an execution level of 36.7 percent on the roads that were intervened (Macia-Bilene Beach, Macia-Chókwè and Chókwè-Macarretane),” said Ângelo Lichanga, PCA of REVIMO, quoted by Notícias.
The PCA also explained that the first phase of the project ends in October and that in the four subsequent years the contractor will carry out the respective maintenance, for an overall investment of about 2.6 billion meticais to be paid in phases, namely 60 percent in the first year and the remaining 40 percent.
Lichanga said that the institution he heads excels in the quality of the works. “We are putting two layers (sub-base and base) of 150 millimeters each, besides using cement, which gives quality for the projected 15 years of useful life. We are comfortable with what is being done and we are confident about the quality,” he stressed.
The source, stressed that REVIMO will operate the roads for 20 years and has no interest in performing work without quality. “The contractor will be here for a period of five years to ensure this desired quality,” he added.
The pronouncements, were made in Gaza province, at the end of a monitoring visit aimed at ensuring compliance with deadlines and quality assurance on roads N101 (Macia-Chókwè), R453 (Macia-Praia do Bilene) and R448 (Chókwè-Macarretane), all in Gaza province.
Of the sections involved, the Macia-Chókwè section, with a length of about 62 kilometers, was the most degraded and required a major intervention, which consisted in the removal of the previous base and the placement of a new and robust one.
The Macia-Bilene Beach road needs only to be widened and rehabilitated, due to the open holes. The Macia-Chókwè road is considered strategic for the flow of agricultural production and game tourism in the Limpopo and Zinave parks, while the Macia-Bilene beach road is crucial for tourism in Bilene.
The intervention on the three roads has about 500 workers, about 90 percent of whom are Mozambicans, including local residents.
