Contributions from the company Rede Viária de Moçambique (REVIMO) totalled 1.2 billion meticals (around 18.7 million dollars) over the last five years, in tax obligations paid to the government.
The information is contained in a recent presentation on the performance of REVIMO’s activities since its implementation in 2020.
The document states that in the same period, in terms of job creation, REVIMO has hired 640 workers, 58 per cent of whom are female and the rest male.
According to Afonso Mahumane, a REVIMO technician, the number of workers hired, broken down by age group, is mostly young people, who account for 78 per cent.
‘And most of them are first-time employees, recruited from the communities through which our infrastructure passes,’ Mahumane added.
REVIMO’s main object is the construction, maintenance and operation, under a toll system, of roads and bridges and their related infrastructure, built or to be built.
It is the concessionaire for the management of some access roads, particularly the ring road, the road linking Maputo-Ka Tembe.

It currently has three shareholders, namely the Roads Fund, which holds just over 68 per cent; KUHANHA – which is the pension fund of the Bank of Mozambique, and the National Social Security Institute (INSS), each with just over 14 per cent.
According to Afonso Mahumane, the concessionaire has managed to set up in five provinces, namely Sofala, Manica, Gaza, Maputo-City and Maputo-Province, with around 16 tolls, and also has a maintenance and user assistance centre in each of these provinces.
