Railways of Mozambique Invests 295 Million Dollars For Acquisition of Equipment

The company Caminhos-de-Ferro de Moçambique (CFM) is investing just over 295 million dollars and the centre of the country. As part of the project CFM is acquiring new locomotives, wagons and carriages, equipment that will initially be allocated to the Ressano Garcia and Limpopo lines in the south of the country and Machipanda in the centre.

The company’s plan for this year is to acquire five locomotives, 90 carriages and 300 wagons to boost cargo and passenger transport capacity on Mozambique’s railroad systems.

The project was presented last Friday at the international exhibition and fair centre in Ricatla, as part of the 56th Maputo International Fair (FACIM).

The chairman of the Board of Directors of Mozambique Railroads, Miguel Matabel, explained that the plan, as well as rehabilitation of the Machipanda line, which is crucial for the economy of neighbouring Zimbabwe and for the central region of the country, included acquiring railcars.
