On Thursday 1 August, the municipality of Matola, in Maputo province, laid the foundation stone for the construction of three roads as part of the “Move” project. The project is valued at 1.4 billion meticals (21.7 million dollars) and is expected to benefit more than 500,000 residents.
According to the municipality, these are “revolutionary” works that will respond to the needs of users, improving mobility and access to public passenger transport.
“The roads will connect the neighbourhoods of Matlemele, Matibwana, Intaka, Boquisso and Khongolote, making a significant contribution to establishing contact with the city of Maputo,” explained the mayor, Júlio Parruque.
He said that the “Move” project was conceived by the Maputo Metropolitan Agency, with the aim of developing and modernising roads and means of transport, ensuring that all the challenges for its implementation have already been overcome.
“We are working to ensure that all the work is done within the established deadlines and, to this end, we will be working with the company China Jiangxi International Economic and Technical Cooperation,” he said.
