Mozambique’s Pequenos Libombos dam, which supplies water to Maputo province, will increase discharges to ensure the safety of the infrastructure as the rainy season approaches, the Regional Water Administration (ARA) announced today.
‘In preparation for the 2024/25 rainy season, with the aim of creating storage capacity and maintaining the operational safety of the Pequenos Libombos Dam, the Southern Regional Water Administration will gradually increase discharges from 1 September,’ the statement said.
The increase will rise from seven cubic metres of water discharge to 30 cubic metres over the next few days, the statement said.
ARA-Sul is calling on society to take precautionary measures on the Umbelúzi river, which supplies the dam, by avoiding crossing it, and to monitor the hydrological information provided by the competent authorities.
