Revenues from the Mozambique Road Network (REVIMO), responsible for the construction, conservation and operation of several national roads, grew 67.3 per cent in 2022, to 1.8 billion meticais, boosted by the start-up of the new tolls.
According to the 2022 report and accounts, released on Friday (18) by Lusa, the volume of traffic on the roads managed by the company in question increased to 17.5 million vehicles last year.
“The increase in tolls enabled us to reach a milestone in our growth. REVIMO continued steadfastly on the path begun in 2019 towards consolidating its role as a strategic partner in the management and monetisation of road infrastructures and related services,” says the company.
According to the organisation, the Costa do Sol, Zintava, Cumbeza and Matola-Gare tolls began operating in February last year, in addition to the Macaneta toll along the Maputo ring road. “With this milestone, we now operate a total of 12 tolls, three on the road between Beira and Machipanda, four on the roads connecting to the Maputo-Katembe Bridge and five on the Maputo ring road,” he emphasised.
Meanwhile, for 2023, REVIMO said that “the milestone will be the completion of the maintenance works on the Macia-Praia do Bilene, Chókwè-Macarretane and Macia-Chókwè roads, infrastructures that will contribute to making better use of Gaza province’s agricultural potential”.
REVIMO has 562 workers and is 70 per cent owned by the Mozambique Roads Fund, with the remaining 30 per cent split between the Bank of Mozambique Pension Fund and the National Social Security Institute
