Nampula province has received 500 million meticals from the government for maintenance and routine work on the secondary and tertiary roads that connect the districts. This amount represents 75 per cent of the approximately 800 million meticals needed annually for such actions.
According to the newspaper Noticias, quoting Mateus Espírito Santo, a provincial delegate from the National Roads Administration (ANE), who was speaking this Tuesday, 23 July, during the 28th Meeting of the Provincial Roads Commission, despite some difficulties, the roads sector considers traffic in the province to be reasonable, allowing travel to all points.
At the event, which aimed to discuss the situation and state of the road network in the region, Espírito Santo emphasised that routine maintenance of the most critical roads and the construction of bridges and aqueducts, such as the Liupo-Nampula road, were underway.
“At the beginning of the year, the province had around 310 kilometres of impassable road network. However, in the flooded and impassable areas, the water is now flowing normally, allowing the safe movement of people and goods,’ he said.
With regard to the road linking Angoche to Nametil, in Mogovolas, the delegate said that work had already begun, with part of the camps set up and the planned diversions open and work on the platforms underway.
Finally, he said that the Nametil-Moma stretch, considered one of the most critical in the province, is passable, but without any intervention so far. This stretch is part of the PROMOVE project, the implementation of which should begin soon.
