Mozambique to Build 10,000 Small Dams in the Next 10 Years

The government plans to build around 10,000 small dams over the next ten years, with a view to retaining rainwater for human consumption and agriculture, as well as for electricity generation, Notícias reports.

The construction of the dams is foreseen in the recently approved strategic plan of the Fund for Investment and Assets of Water Supply (FIPAG), and will take place through public-private partnerships.

The announcement was made recently by Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, who was inspecting construction work at the Estoril water distribution centre in Beira.
