The heads of state of Mozambique, Botswana and Zimbabwe – Filipe Nyusi, Makgweetsi Masisi and Emmerson Mnangagwa, respectively – are taking part in a tripartite summit on rail-port projects this Friday, 12 July.
According to a statement, the aim of the meeting is to analyse cooperation mechanisms for the implementation of the “Techobanine Port Integrated Project”, to be developed in the three countries, which consists of the construction of a deep-water port in Techobanine, Maputo province, southern Mozambique.
“The infrastructure was idealised more than 15 years ago. There are also plans to build a 1,700 kilometre railway line that will connect the three countries, making trade more flexible and reducing the burden of imports and exports,” he said.
The document also added that “before the tripartite summit, the leaders will fly over the area where the project, budgeted at 410.8 billion meticals (6.5 billion dollars), will be implemented”.
