“Mozambique Airports Should Invest in Service Modernisation” – Adriano Maleiane

The Executive, through Prime Minister Adriano Maleiane, this Monday, August 19, issued a challenge to the new CEO of Aeroportos de Moçambique, Amélia Muendane, to continue investing in the implementation of ongoing projects and programmes aimed at modernising the services offered by the institution.

According to the newspaper Noticias, the challenge was launched during Muendane’s swearing-in ceremony, where Maleiane highlighted as the main initiatives to be taken into consideration by the new leadership the improvement of airport infrastructures, with the aim of offering a more comfortable and safe environment for passengers and other users.

‘We need to create the conditions to transform the country’s airports into intelligent spaces, with high quality and efficient services,’ he emphasised.

On the same occasion, the Prime Minister emphasised that achieving these goals will depend on establishing strategic partnerships and fully exploiting the potential already installed in the company.

In June, Aeroportos de Moçambique announced a significant investment in the modernisation of cargo terminals across the country, with the aim of adapting to the current dynamics of the air market and improving competitiveness.

In a statement issued at the time, the company said that the initiative included the launch of a public tender to hire a firm specialised in carrying out the necessary work.

‘Modernisation should take place in a context in which the freight rates charged on the domestic market are seen as an obstacle to competitiveness, while at the same time discouraging the capitalisation of air transport in the value chain of exporting and importing products,’ it said.

Amélia Muendane was appointed chairmans of Aeroportos de Moçambique by the Council of Ministers last Tuesday, 13 August, and during her mandate she will be responsible for managing a network of 20 airport terminals spread across all the country’s provinces.
