Brazil’s ambassador to Mozambique, Ademar da Cruz, recently revealed that his country is considering resuming funding for the Moamba-Major dam construction project, located in the Moamba district, Maputo province, which has been at a standstill for almost seven years.
According to information published on Wednesday, October 4, by Semanário Económico, the intention was shared in Maputo, during a business meeting between businesspeople from the two countries, at which the diplomat said that “on the side of Brazil’s National Bank for Economic and Social Development, there are no problems in financing the project”.
“There are no difficulties, it’s just a matter of time. This is an issue that needs to be dealt with and we are in talks, which are at a very advanced stage, to find solutions in order to unblock funding for the construction of the dam,” he said.
Ademar da Cruz also pointed out that “there has been significant progress, including talks with high-level authorities”, adding that “at the moment, we can’t talk about deadlines, because there are still technical details that need to be considered”.
The Moamba-Major dam will have the capacity to supply the Maputo metropolitan area with 760 million cubic meters of water per year.
