The World Bank has allocated 38 million meticals for the Maputo Urban Transformation project (PTUM), which includes interventions on Fernão Magalhães avenue and the rehabilitation of the section of Albert Lithuli avenue between the Railway Club and 25 de Setembro avenue.
According to a report in the newspaper Noticias, the works are aimed at improving traffic flow and avoiding congestion, especially in public transport corridors.
The work includes the construction of a rainwater collector to prevent flooding during rainy seasons. To this end, an inspection team has been deployed to guarantee the quality of the work and avoid recurring costs with future repairs.
‘These works will significantly ease traffic and reduce congestion at peak times. However, it is necessary to extend these improvements to other roads in critical condition,’ explained the Councillor for Infrastructure and Health, Kão Munguambe.
Munguambe also made it clear that there are financial and human resources, equipment and working materials to gradually carry out more works in the country’s capital, and warned of the possibility of temporary closures of some roads during the works, with signs being put up to guide drivers to use alternative routes.
