Rede Viária de Moçambique (REVIMO) has decided to extend the registration deadline until 15 August, with the aim of ensuring that all hauliers continue to enjoy the 75% discount on paying tolls, according to the Carta de Moçambique portal.
In a statement, REVIMO clarified that last Friday (2), the Matola-Gare toll, located on the Maputo ring road, was blocked by semi-collective passenger carriers, a blockade motivated by allegations that the 75% discount on the toll rate had been cancelled.
According to the company, under normal conditions, a semi-collective transporter would pay 40 meticals to cross two tolls, but with the discount, this amount is reduced to just 10 meticals.
To facilitate the transition from the manual to the electronic payment system, REVIMO, in collaboration with the Mozambican Federation of Road Transport Associations (FEMATRO) and the Association of Transport Cooperatives, launched a campaign to register operators for the new electronic payment system. This campaign ran from 10 to 31 July.
However, REVIMO realised that many hauliers, especially those on the Matola-Gare route, had still not managed to complete their registration. In response, the organisation decided to extend the registration deadline until 15 August and called on all hauliers to register by the new deadline, thus guaranteeing the continuation of the discount on tolls.
REVIMO reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all registered hauliers continue to benefit from the 75% discount, facilitating their daily operations and improving the quality of road transport in the region.
