The Mozambican government said on Sunday that the repair of infrastructures damaged by floods in some parts of Maputo province will take place soon after the passage of the phenomenon.
The information was provided by the Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane, during his monitoring visit to the areas affected by floods in Boane and Namaacha districts.
According to Maleiane, in a first phase, the damage will be assessed in order to identify the priority areas and the type of work to be carried out in each area.
“We will see the extent of the damage, because the work will depend a lot on the level of damage that the infrastructures have suffered. In the case of roads, instead of filling in the hole, it will be necessary to rebuild”, explained Adriano Maleiane.
The Prime Minister also visited some accommodation centres that receive victims of the floods, and he was informed about the humanitarian aid process led by the National Institute for Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (INGD).
The latest data made available by INGD revealed a total of 36,700 people affected by the floods, equivalent to 7,300 families, and six people lost their lives.
In November last year it announced it needed 7.4 billion meticais for the 2022/2023 rainy season, a period when at least 2.2 million people are expected to be affected.
