This Friday, 1 November, the Mozambican President, Filipe Nyusi, will lay the foundation stone for the construction of the new bridge-harbour in the KaNyaka municipal district in Maputo, in the south of the country.
According to Radio Moçambique, the previous bridge was closed in 2013 due to its high state of disrepair. The future infrastructure will improve comfort and safety when embarking and disembarking passengers and cargo, avoiding transhipment in small boats.
The new project is part of the social responsibility of the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) on the island.
With a population estimated at just over 6,000 inhabitants, Kanyaka is a tourist island located at the entrance to Maputo Bay, with an area of 42 square kilometres and north-south dimensions of 12.5 kilometres and east-west dimensions of 7 kilometres.
