The ramp that gives access to the United Nations (UN) Avenue, located just off the Maputo-KaTembe Bridge, was reopened on Wednesday (23), following the completion of the upgrading work that began in August. The work was aimed at correcting damage to the structure, reinforcing safety and comfort for users, according to the newspaper Noticias.
According to Fernando Matola, director of maintenance at the Mozambique Road Network (REVIMO), the work included building a new retaining wall, reinforcing the support structure and repairing cracks in the pavement. These measures were essential, as the previous state of disrepair jeopardised driver safety.
‘With the upgrading, the resilience and quality of the infrastructure is now guaranteed, ensuring greater comfort and safety for motorists using the road,’ said Matola, who also explained that REVIMO will continue to monitor the bridge, carrying out periodic maintenance and necessary modernisations in order to preserve the safety standards of the road network.
The REVIMO official added that the work went smoothly and on schedule, since the weather conditions remained favourable and there were no external interferences that could have delayed the execution of the work.
The Maputo-KaTembe Bridge, one of Maputo city’s main road links, now has a new access ramp, allowing vehicles to circulate more safely and efficiently after this structural intervention.
