The Mozambican Minister of Transport and Communications, Mateus Magala, inaugurated on Monday, November 20, the truck traffic management park in Pessene, Moamba district, Maputo province, an infrastructure valued at 3 million dollars and built by the Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC).
According to the government official, the park will help boost economic development in the Maputo corridor, guaranteeing the safe movement of people and trucks, and joint operations with the police are planned along National Road Number 4 (the road linking Mozambique to South Africa) to reduce transit times at the Ressano Garcia border crossing.
“With this inauguration, the government hopes to create viable conditions for increasing the capacity for the movement of more products in a short space of time. And looking ahead to the festive season, we believe that the park will serve to minimize the risk of accidents on public roads,” he explained.
The construction project was launched in April this year by the Ministry of Transport and Communications, in an initiative carried out by the Maputo Provincial Government, with the aim of facilitating operations and increasing commercial efficiency along the Maputo corridor, and the work began in July.
