Construction and expansion work on the new bridge over the Metuchira River, valued at 4.6 million dollars (300 million meticals), located on the N6 in Inchope, Gondola district, is almost complete, with 95 per cent of the work already done. Delivery is expected to take place next September, the newspaper Noticias reported .
The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, Carlos Mesquita, who recently followed the progress of the work closely, expressed his satisfaction with the progress of the work.
‘The bridge will have a positive impact on the development of the region, opening up new business opportunities, which will stimulate the growth of trade in the Southern African Development Community (SADC),’ he said, explaining that as well as improving traffic flow, the infrastructure should also reduce road accidents in the region.
According to the government official, the project, funded by the Mozambique Road Network (REVIMO), will not only benefit the community of Gondola and the province of Manica, but also users of the N6 in general.
‘We believe that the bridge will be a catalyst for progress and prosperity in the country in general and in Manica province in particular,’ concluded Mesquita.
