IGEPE Collects Funds for Upgrading Grain Storage in STEMA Silos

Silos e Terminal Graneleiro da Matola (STEMA) is to benefit from investment in the construction and rehabilitation of grain storage silos, with a view to increasing its holding, reception and dispatch capacity, the newspaper Noticiasreported on Wednesday 28 August .

The newspaper reports that the information was provided by the president of the Institute for the Management of State Holdings (IGEPE), Ana Coanai, at the 59th edition of the Maputo International Fair (FACIM) in Marracuene.

According to the official, funds are being raised on the South African market for the construction of a new silo and the rehabilitation of others. ‘We are in the process of mobilising funding and we believe that by the end of this year we will be able to close the deal,’ she explained.

The investment will allow the company to increase the amount of grain it handles. It is believed that STEMA still has enough space to meet the demand for grain imports from all national companies, by sea, rail and road.

Due to its strategic location next to the Port of Maputo, STEMA not only serves the national market, but also supports the transit of grain imported from neighbouring countries such as South Africa, Zimbabwe and Eswatini.

In addition, the site serves as an exit point for the export of cereals and other bulk products from Mozambique and other southern African countries, as well as imports for distribution on the regional market.

The company currently has a capacity of 45,000 tonnes spread over 27 silos, handling products such as wheat, maize, rice, soya, soya flour, sunflower hulls, wood chips, malt (for beer production) and other similar products.
