The Mozambican government already has part of the budget of US$301 million secured to implement the reconstruction plan for Cabo Delgado, the target of terrorist attacks since October 2017 that caused the destruction of important economic and social infrastructure, in addition to the loss of human lives.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, April 11, in Maputo, at the end of the 12th Session of the Council of Ministers.
It was the Council’s own spokesman who made public the information regarding the availability of funds for the reconstruction of the country’s Northern-most province. “This plan was initially evaluated in 301 million dollars, and at this moment the Government has assured financing of 131.27 million dollars, of which 100 million from the World Bank, 20.6 million from UNDP, 200 thousand dollars from the TotalEnergies oil company and 10.5 million dollars from the State Budget”, informed Filimão Suaze.
The responsible also revealed that the Government is monitoring the implementation of the projects whose works are being executed by the name indicated by the cooperation partners. “The activities are, in general, in the phase of completing the design of the projects and launching the respective tenders.”
According to the Government, “some progress is also highlighted in the actions that concern the distribution of kits of agricultural inputs, birth registrations, installation of temporary tents and containers for the operation of administrative activities, as well as the improvement of offices for the provisional operation of the organs of the State while the rehabilitation and reconstruction works take place.”
