Trans African Concession (TRAC), the concessionaire of National Road Number Four (N4), has announced rehabilitation works on section 16 of the highway that will require temporary traffic stoppages at several points along the road between 20 July and 23 August 2026.
According to a notice issued by the company, the interventions cover stretches located between Ressano Garcia, Moamba, and Macomocomo in Maputo Province, with the aim of enabling the execution of rehabilitation works and improving traffic conditions along the route.
During the works period, motorists will be required to observe mandatory traffic stoppages in different directions along the highway, in accordance with a schedule defined by the concessionaire. Some interruptions may extend for 24 hours, depending on the section under intervention.
In the week of 20 to 26 July, the stoppage will be concentrated on the eastbound carriageway, between kilometres 14.5 and 12.5, in the Macomocomo area. Traffic on this stretch will be suspended for 24 hours to allow the planned works to proceed.
From 27 July to 2 August, works shift to the westbound carriageway on the same stretch between kilometres 14.5 and 12.5, with traffic restrictions remaining in place throughout the day while rehabilitation interventions are carried out.
Between 3 and 9 August, TRAC plans works at two separate points on the N4. On the eastbound side, a 24-hour stoppage is scheduled between kilometres 6.0 and 4.0 in the Ressano Garcia area. On the westbound carriageway, traffic restrictions will apply between kilometres 36.8 and 33.3, near the Moamba toll plaza, between 06h00 and 18h00.
In the week of 10 to 16 August, works continue on the eastbound carriageway between kilometres 33.3 and 29.8, adjacent to the Moamba toll plaza, with traffic conditioned between 06h00 and 18h00. Between 17 and 23 August, the intervention returns to the westbound carriageway on the same stretch and within the same hours.
TRAC has urged N4 users to ‘plan their journeys in advance’, respect signage installed at works sites, and follow the directions of traffic control teams on the ground. The company recently announced that it is intensifying the restoration of lighting along the highway, having already recovered more than 85% of the system damaged by acts of vandalism during the civil unrest that swept the country last year.
