Sofala: Government to Invest $13M in Modernizing Fuel Terminal at Beira Port

The Mozambican government will invest 830 million meticais, equivalent to 13 million dollars, in the modernization of the fuel terminal at Beira Port in Sofala Province, aiming to strengthen the operational capacity of this strategic infrastructure for national and regional trade.

The announcement was made on Sunday (14) by President Daniel Chapo during a working visit to the port complex, as part of his tour of Sofala Province, focusing on the city of Beira and the Nhamatanda district.

On the occasion, the head of state emphasized the need for continuous investments at Beira Port to overcome major operational constraints. “We must continue investing in Beira Port because there are issues related to fuels, general cargo, and containers,” he stated.

Daniel Chapo explained that the existence of multiple concessions at the port requires a coordinated approach, advocating for the creation of a guiding instrument. “We will need to develop a master development plan for Beira Port as a first step,” he stressed.

The President also revealed that the establishment of an entity to ensure greater discipline among port operators is under consideration. “There are several concessions, several entities, and each makes investments independently without any coordination,” he observed.

According to the head of state, this lack of coordination compromises the port’s efficiency, which is why the government has decided to implement structural measures, including the construction of the first regional logistics center in Dondo district to support the port and improve cargo flow. As an immediate measure, the government also decided to build a new access road to Beira Port.

During the visit to Sofala Province, in Nhamatanda district, the President also presided over the closing ceremony of the seventh training course for sergeants of the Mozambican Police at the Police Sergeants School, which saw the graduation of over 500 officers, as part of efforts to strengthen the operational capacity of the force.
