The administrative post of Muxúnguè, in the district of Chibabava, Sofala province, is set to host a new clinker and cement production plant representing an investment valued at US$230 million.
According to Jornal Notícias, the groundbreaking ceremony for the new cement factory was held on Wednesday (6) in Muxúnguè and was presided over by Minister of Economy Basílio Muhate. The investment belongs to Clay and Gravel Holding.
Once operational, the facility will have the capacity to produce approximately 950,000 tonnes of clinker and 1.2 million tonnes of cement per year.
The project is expected to strengthen national cement output and reduce the country's dependence on imported clinker, one of the key raw materials used in cement manufacturing.
The government also anticipates that the investment will reinforce value chains within the sector, increase the competitiveness of the domestic industry, and improve Mozambique's positioning in the regional market.
At the ceremony, Minister Basílio Muhate stated that the project is aligned with the government's priorities for industrialisation and economic diversification. According to the minister, the plant's entry into operation should boost industrial activity, create employment, raise household incomes, and broaden the country's productive base.
The establishment of the facility in Muxúnguè is also expected to stimulate broader economic activity in the area, particularly in transport, raw material supply, industrial maintenance, and service provision.
