The Minister of Transport and Logistics, João Matlombe, expressed his “satisfaction” with the progress of maintenance works on National Road Number 1 (EN1), in the section between Bela Vista and Ponta do Ouro, currently managed by the Mozambique Road Network (REVIMO).
According to a statement cited by Club of Mozambique, Transport and Logistics Minister João Matlombe considered the progress of the rehabilitation and maintenance works carried out by REVIMO satisfactory, following a visit on Friday (24) to several sections under the concessionaire’s management.
“We observed with satisfaction the progress of the works carried out by the contractor, as well as the improvements made to the road connecting to the EN1. We are satisfied with the work and the assessment is positive,” said the government official.
In addition to the interventions on the Bela Vista-Ponta do Ouro section, REVIMO is modernising the public lighting system between Marracuene and Zimpeto, along the EN1. According to the minister, the project is expected to improve road circulation conditions and contribute to reducing road accidents.
João Matlombe acknowledged, however, that challenges remain on some roads managed by the concessionaire, particularly at roundabouts, where traffic congestion continues to occur during periods of heavier traffic.
“There is still work to be done, especially at roundabouts, to find ways of easing congestion, particularly during peak hours,” he said, adding that REVIMO already has an intervention plan underway, whose implementation will depend on the availability of financial resources.
During the visit, the minister also travelled to EN203, where the construction of a drainage channel is underway, aimed at reducing flooding that affects homes located alongside the road and a nearby school.
