President Daniel Chapo met on Wednesday, July 2, in Seville, Spain, with the president of Africa50, Alain Ebobissé, to discuss strengthening strategic cooperation in the development of infrastructure in the country. The meeting focused on projects in the energy, transport, and information and communication technology (ICT) sectors.
Africa50 is a pan-African infrastructure investment institution owned by 33 African countries, including Mozambique, and the African Development Bank (AfDB). Its mission is to accelerate the development of sustainable infrastructure across the African continent.
According to the newspaper O País, during the meeting, the Head of State reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to consolidating partnerships that promote sustainable national progress.
Alain Ebobissé stated that the audience with President Chapo “focused on the support we propose to the Mozambican Government in specific infrastructure projects. We discussed projects in the energy, transport, and ICT sectors.”
The president of Africa50 also praised the Government’s decision to host, in the coming August, the Africa50 shareholders’ general meeting in the city of Maputo. “It will be an event bringing together various African countries and international partners to discuss the progress of projects in the country and share the institution’s initiatives on the continent.”
The meeting in Seville followed a session held in April, during which both parties had already identified investment opportunities, reiterating the importance of collaboration between Mozambique and the pan-African investment platform. Hosting the shareholders’ meeting in Maputo positions the country as a strategic hub for infrastructure investment, offering new opportunities for economic growth and modernization of the country’s vital sectors.
