The Government approved on Tuesday, June 3, the creation of the National Public Works Administration (ANOP), a new state entity responsible for the management, coordination, and supervision of the construction and maintenance of public infrastructure throughout the national territory. The decision was made during the 19th ordinary session of the Council of Ministers, which approved the respective decree establishing the entity.
According to an official statement, ANOP will serve as the body responsible for implementing public policies in the field of public works, acting as the technical arm of the State to ensure greater efficiency and control over structural interventions.
The Government states that the new entity’s mission includes planning, coordinating, executing, and supervising construction, rehabilitation, and maintenance works on public buildings and facilities, covering essential areas such as educational establishments, health units, and other state infrastructures.
The creation of ANOP is part of a broader effort to reform public administration and improve the management of State assets, aiming to ensure greater technical rigor and sustainability in public works investments, which are often funded by external sources and subject to international audits.
No details have yet been provided regarding the internal structure of the new entity or its funding model, but the Government assured that ANOP will have nationwide coverage and will operate in close coordination with ministries and provincial governments responsible for the beneficiary sectors.
