The Maputo Port Development Company (MPDC) has awarded its Port Community System (PCS) project to Kale Logistics Solutions, marking a significant milestone in the digital transformation of Maputo Port and reinforcing Mozambique’s ambition to become a leading logistics and trade hub in Southern Africa, according to Cyprus Shipping News (CSN), which reported the development on Tuesday, 7 July.
The Maputo PCS forms part of the government’s broader digital transformation agenda and will function as a unified digital platform connecting key stakeholders across the maritime and logistics ecosystem. The system will enable secure information exchange, greater operational visibility, process automation, and real-time collaboration. The initiative aims to streamline trade processes, improve operational efficiency, and foster a more integrated and transparent port community.
According to CSN, the platform will support a wide range of port operations, including vessel management, imports, exports, transhipment, cabotage, road and rail movements, interactions with customs and regulatory authorities, warehousing operations, and performance monitoring.
The platform will be integrated with existing systems, including the Single Customs Window, Terminal Operating Systems, Vessel Traffic Management Systems, and banking and payment platforms, creating an integrated digital environment for all port community operators.
Minister of Transport and Logistics João Matlombe said that ‘digital transformation is no longer an option — it is a prerequisite for competitiveness. The Port Community System represents a strategic step towards a more integrated, efficient, and transparent logistics ecosystem, fully aligned with the government’s vision for transport modernisation and trade facilitation.’
The minister added: ‘As Mozambique’s first Port Community System, this initiative positions Maputo Port as a pioneer and lays the foundation for the digital evolution of our national logistics network.’
MPDC Board Chairman Osório Lucas said the PCS implementation ‘is aligned with our vision of creating a smarter, more connected, and more efficient port ecosystem. By enabling real-time collaboration and information sharing among stakeholders, we are strengthening Maputo Port’s role as a strategic gateway for regional and international trade.’
Lucas expressed gratitude for the government’s support ‘in building a platform that will help prepare Mozambique for the next generation of trade and logistics challenges.’
