The National Roads Administration (ANE) has announced the completion of maintenance work on National Road Number One (N1), on the stretch between Lhanguene cemetery and Zimpeto, in the city of Maputo.
The intervention, which included plugging potholes and installing a drainage system, aims to improve road circulation and prevent frequent flooding on the road.
Special attention was paid to the Mafureira area, one of the most critical points on this stretch of road. During the rainy season, it was common for rainwater to accumulate, hampering traffic and causing damage to vehicles. With the new drainage infrastructure, ANE ensures that the road should no longer be submerged, even during heavy rainfall.
The intervention follows reports that denounced the advanced state of degradation of the road and the risks faced by drivers on a daily basis. Now that the work has been completed, users of the N1 will be able to benefit from better safety conditions and traffic flow.
The engineer in charge of the work explained that, as well as filling in the potholes, a water drainage network has been built which should significantly reduce the impact of rainfall on the road infrastructure.
ANE reaffirms its commitment to the ongoing maintenance of national roads, pointing out that similar interventions are planned for other critical points along the N1, with the aim of guaranteeing a safer and more functional road network throughout the national territory.
